Excel & Google Sheets formulas
Every function explained with a real example, in English and Spanish.
Lookup & reference
Finds a value in one range and returns the matching value from another. It searches in any direction and lets you choose what to show when nothing is found.
Looks for a value in the first column of a table and returns a value from the same row in another column. The classic lookup, available everywhere.
Returns every row of a range that meets a condition, and spills the results into the cells below. Updates live when the data changes.
Returns the position of a value inside a row or column. On its own it gives a number; combined with INDEX it becomes a flexible lookup.
Returns the value at a row (and column) inside a range. Paired with MATCH, it is the classic lookup that searches left and survives inserted columns.
Math & totals
Adds the cells that meet one or more conditions. Perfect for totals by category, month or person.
Counts how many cells in a range meet a condition. Works with text, numbers, dates and wildcards.
Adds the cells that meet a single condition. For two or more conditions, use SUMIFS.
Counts the rows where all your conditions are true at once. Like COUNTIF, but with as many conditions as you need.
Logical
Returns a value you choose when a formula results in an error like #N/A or #DIV/0!, and the normal result otherwise.
Checks a condition and returns one value when it is true and another when it is false. The building block of almost every spreadsheet.
Checks conditions in order and returns the result of the first one that is true. Replaces long chains of nested IFs.
