COUNTIFS in Excel & Google Sheets
Counts the rows where all your conditions are true at once. Like COUNTIF, but with as many conditions as you need.
Syntax
=COUNTIFS(criteria_range1, criteria1, [criteria_range2, criteria2…]) Example: Finished tasks in the North region
=COUNTIFS(B2:B20, "Done", C2:C20, "North") =CONTAR.SI.CONJUNTO(B2:B20; "Done"; C2:C20; "North") Counts the rows where column B says "Done" and column C says "North".
COUNTIFS in Spanish
In Spanish Excel and Google Sheets, COUNTIFS is called CONTAR.SI.CONJUNTO. It's the same function: files translate automatically when opened in another language. When you type it by hand, the name and the argument separator change.
| English | Spanish | |
|---|---|---|
| Function | COUNTIFS | CONTAR.SI.CONJUNTO |
| Separator | , | ; |
| Example | =COUNTIFS(B2:B20, "Done", C2:C20, "North") | =CONTAR.SI.CONJUNTO(B2:B20; "Done"; C2:C20; "North") |
The separator depends on regional settings: Spanish versions usually use semicolons, but countries with a decimal point (like Mexico) may use commas.

What is COUNTIFS in Spanish?
In Spanish, COUNTIFS is CONTAR.SI.CONJUNTO. When you type it by hand in a Spanish Excel, arguments are usually separated by semicolons (;): =CONTAR.SI.CONJUNTO(B2:B20; "Done"; C2:C20; "North")
Does COUNTIFS work in Google Sheets?
Yes. COUNTIFS works in Google Sheets with the same syntax as in Excel. In a sheet set to Spanish it's called CONTAR.SI.CONJUNTO. The separator (comma or semicolon) follows the sheet's locale, under File → Settings.
How do I count with OR instead of AND?
Add two COUNTIFS together: =COUNTIFS(B2:B20, "Done") + COUNTIFS(B2:B20, "Review"). Each one counts a different value.
